A public reveal and ribbon-cutting on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, marked the renaming of Avila Beach Golf Resort in Avila Beach, a community in San Luis Obispo County on California's Central Coast, to The Avila. The owners frame the shift as part of a "significant reinvestment throughout the property," according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, which cited a news release from CoVelop.

Ownership rests with a joint partnership of the Rossi family and CoVelop, according to the announcement as published through the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce member news. The course opened in 1969 and was designed by two-time major champion Olin Dutra and golf course architect Desmond Muirhead. Per the release, the front nine runs through oak-lined valleys and the back nine crosses the tidal estuary near San Luis Obispo Bay. The property now operates online as The Avila.

Work listed in the release covers both the golf and clubhouse sides of the property. On the course, it cites improvements to golf course infrastructure and facilities, new hitting mats, irrigation upgrades and a new fleet of GPS-equipped carts carrying the new name and logo. Elsewhere, it describes expanded food and drink at Mulligan's Bar & Grill, which keeps its name, along with refreshed event spaces and more live music and local programming. A new annual golf membership program was introduced at the reveal.

The Beach Club forms part of that list. According to the Chamber release, its renovations include a new staircase, renovated event facilities and a downstairs concessions area that opens during Beach Party weekends and concerts. The release says the upstairs Beach Club deck looks out over the course, with sunset and ocean views.

Rob Rossi, co-owner and partner, said in the release: "We're incredibly proud of the history of this property and what Avila Beach Golf Resort has meant to this community for more than 55 years. The Avila isn't about leaving that history behind. It's about building on it." Damien Mavis, co-owner and CoVelop partner, said: "We've been investing significant time and resources into this property, from infrastructure and the golf course to new furnishings and guest amenities. People are already seeing the difference, but this is just the beginning and we're not done."

The release gives one reason for the new name, saying the property "has become much more than a golf course" and has hosted weddings, concerts, festivals and golf outings over the years. The owners did not disclose the investment amount, a timeline for further work, membership pricing or who designed the Beach Club renovation. Elsewhere on California's Central Coast, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has also moved into a new chapter, with a new owner and a master plan.
