Tiger Woods and TGR Design to Redesign Armchair Collective's Brookville Course, Adding New Clubhouse and Cottages

The Armchair Collective announced Monday that Tiger Woods and TGR Design will design an 18-hole course for its Long Island flagship in Brookville. The project also adds a new clubhouse, a social hub called The Barn and member cottages. Course work is planned to begin in 2027.

Tiger Woods and TGR Design will design an 18-hole course for the Armchair Collective's flagship private club in the Village of Brookville on Long Island, a project that also includes a new clubhouse and member cottages, according to the company's announcement published by The Golf Wire on Monday, Nov. 2. The release says the work will transform a former private golf club into a destination for a national membership on Long Island's Gold Coast.

The redevelopment "will reimagine a property with more than six decades of golf history," the release says, pairing a redesigned course with extensive practice facilities, an indoor and outdoor golf performance center, the new clubhouse and the cottages. The release calls The Barn "the club's social hub," and says the cottages will offer on-property stays. It does not say how many cottages are planned. A 20,000-square-foot putting green inspired by the Himalayas at St Andrews will sit beside The Barn, along with dedicated short-game areas. At Rock Creek Park Golf, a public course in Washington, D.C., National Links Trust's planned new clubhouse comes with a putting course modeled on the Himalayas at St Andrews.

Architecture inspired by the surrounding country houses, estates and farms will connect the club to its setting, according to the release. The course is meant to offer strategic choices, variety and thoughtful shot-making, with firm, fast playing conditions. TGR Design's project page describes a walking course with generous fairways, ribbon-style teeing grounds and native fine fescue corridors, and says the naturally sandy soils support firm conditions.

The property was originally part of the Linden Estate, officially known as Linden Hill, and was built around 1915, TGR Design says. Existing farm structures will be repurposed, the firm says. In its words, "The historic milk barn will serve as a comfort station overlooking the putting course and short game area, while the existing barn will be transformed into overnight accommodations for members and their guests."

Woods, who won the 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, said in the release, "I have great memories of competing on Long Island, especially at Bethpage." He added that the region "has an extraordinary golf course architecture tradition, and we look forward to contributing to that legacy with a course that players can enjoy for generations." Village of Brookville Mayor Dan Serota said, "Bringing Tiger Woods and TGR Design to this beautiful and historic part of Long Island is a remarkable opportunity."

Armchair describes itself as a national private golf club platform connecting architecturally exceptional courses, and the release says membership is available by nomination only. In September, the Village of Brookville said Armchair had bought the closed Tam O'Shanter property in Brookville and planned to operate it as a members-only private club, as LongIsland.com reported on Sept. 30. Any redevelopment remained subject to environmental, planning and regulatory review, the village said. The announcement does not name the course it will redesign.
