The main clubhouse at Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, is believed to be a total loss after a fire on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, that began in the afternoon, showed at the roof by late day, and took down a portion of the house after 7 p.m. The building is the club's third clubhouse, opened on Thanksgiving Day 1969. ClickOnDetroit reported crews could not save the main building. WWJ said Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety was alerted by a fire alarm at about 2:45 p.m. Other local accounts place the start window around 2 p.m.

When crews arrived, the fire initially appeared concentrated in the attic, then spread. Flames showed at the roof edges shortly before 5 p.m., and a portion of the structure collapsed around 7:20 p.m. Multiple fire departments worked the scene into the night and early Thursday morning. Early Thursday, Patch still described an active fire scene and asked the public to stay away. Members and staff were evacuated. WWJ reported that one firefighter suffered hand burns. Some other outlets said no injuries were reported.

The cause is not confirmed. Mayor Arthur W. Bryant told ClickOnDetroit that the fire may have started in the kitchen but that investigators had not confirmed it. WWJ cited preliminary information that the fire started in the kitchen before spreading into the attic. Club historian Tom Jerger told ClickOnDetroit, in a follow-up account of what was known by Thursday, that the burned building was the club's third clubhouse and that the fire appeared concentrated around the recently renovated 1917 Grill area.

Lochmoor Club was founded in 1917. The first two clubhouses, the Stratton and Snyder houses, are gone. Katie Doelle's history of the original building records that first house and the 1924 successor designed by William B. Stratton and Dalton J. Snyder. The third clubhouse opened on Thanksgiving Day 1969. The architect of the 1969 house has not been verified in published reporting.

Club President Thomasine Marks told members the club would rebuild, including language reported as building stronger and better. That is a leadership pledge to members, not a published budget, architect, square footage figure, or opening date. The fire is a Clubhouses story in the same state as the new house under construction at Kingsley Club and the planned clubhouse program at Frontier Club, without a reconstruction calendar of its own.

Juday Creek Golf Course in Granger, Indiana, is already on that path, breaking ground in September 2026 on a smaller replacement more than two years after its own clubhouse fire.

Local accounts released through Thursday morning do not include a confirmed origin, a dollar figure for the loss, or a schedule for the next clubhouse.
