Teton Pines Country Club Clubhouse Expansion Clears Planning Commission in Jackson Hole, Wyoming
The Teton County Planning Commission voted unanimously Oct. 26 to recommend approval of an 11,992-square-foot addition to the clubhouse at Teton Pines Country Club in Wilson, Wyoming. County commissioners take up the application Nov. 17.
On Oct. 26 the Teton County Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of a development plan that would add 11,992 square feet to the clubhouse at Teton Pines Country Club in Wilson, Wyoming, on the West Bank of Jackson Hole, according to the Jackson Hole News&Guide. The Planning Commission only makes recommendations, and Teton County commissioners will take up the application Nov. 17.
The private club’s existing clubhouse measures 28,304 square feet and was first permitted in 1986, according to the Teton County staff report. The plan would bring the building to about 38,158 square feet of gross floor area across three levels. Todd Bretzlaff, the club’s general manager, told the News&Guide, “It’s basically a 40-year building. We wanted to update and upgrade the club overall, so that we’re ready for the next generation of membership.”

This clubhouse project is the third and final phase of a program the club began in 2021, according to the club’s website. The club started with renovations to its golf course, which it says was designed by Arnold Palmer. It then added a heated lap pool, heated deck, year-round hot tub and upgraded pickleball courts, the News&Guide reported. This spring the club opened the Pines Overlook, a wellness center and gym that includes a kitchen, poolside bar and dining patio. Bretzlaff said the Overlook is set to function as the clubhouse while the expanded facility is under construction.

The News&Guide, citing Bretzlaff, reported that the remodel would upgrade a “tunnel” in front of the club by pushing the front of the building forward by about 20 feet. Plans also call for enclosing the golf pro shop, adding more dining area and another kitchen line, a card room and a large fireplace. The entryway would be graded so guests do not have to go up any stairs to enter the building.
The county application lists Prospect Studio, a firm based in Wilson, as the project architect. Other private clubs are also reworking older clubhouses. Bald Peak Colony Club in Moultonborough, New Hampshire was scheduled to begin a renovation of roughly $30 million of its 1921 clubhouse, and River Oaks Country Club in Houston has a $23 million renovation and expansion of its main clubhouse on file with the state of Texas.
Because of its size the expansion requires review by the citizen planning board and county commissioners rather than administrative review by county planners, Planning Director Chris Neubecker said. Planning commissioners made their motion without extensive discussion. “It seems pretty straightforward,” Commissioner Alex Muromcew said. Principal Planner Hamilton Smith said, “There’s really not a whole lot that we can delve into here.” Draft minutes of the meeting record a 5-0 vote and no public comment.
County staff calculated that the added restaurant and bar space and recreation area will result in a need for 0.682 units of housing, the News&Guide reported. The club has opted to pay a $142,071 fee instead of building physical units.

Teton County commissioners will take up the application Nov. 17. Pending their approval, the club anticipates starting construction in December and finishing the project in August 2028, Bretzlaff said, with the Pines Overlook serving as the clubhouse in the meantime.
