Beechmont Country Club in Orange, Ohio, on Cleveland's east side, has finished a renovation of roughly $12.5 million that touched nearly every part of the 103-year-old private club, from the house to the golf course, Crain's Cleveland Business reported this week. The Cleveland architecture firm Vocon designed the clubhouse work. Marous Brothers Construction of Willoughby built it.

Founded in 1923, Beechmont marked its centennial in 2023. When the club set out the renovation program in January, both Crain's and the Cleveland Jewish News described a program of about $12 million covering the clubhouse, the course, and member amenities.

The building package carries a separate figure. In an August LinkedIn post, Marous put the comprehensive clubhouse renovation it delivered with Vocon at $5.7 million. Read against the Crain's campus total, that number is the construction package for the house, not the cost of the whole project.

According to Marous Brothers' project page, the work covers more than 72,000 square feet of interior and exterior space, and the builder's completion post lists 72,800. The rooms themselves read as a walk through the house: the ballroom, the main grille and its signature bar, the lobby, the fireside lounge, the kitchen, the Garden Room, the tennis center lobby, and a lower-level grill. Mechanical, lighting, technology, and security systems behind those rooms were part of the same job.

Ryan Lepene, the club's president, told the Cleveland Jewish News in January how the social rooms were meant to work. The library wall off the ballroom was to come out so a wraparound signature bar seating about 26 could take its place, with high-tops, banquet seating, and televisions. The Garden Room was planned as a women's lounge for cards, with its own screens, and the men's locker room was refreshed in the same scope. For clubs that have put capital into a lounge and locker room on their own, as Moselem Springs did, Beechmont folds those rooms into a whole-house program instead of treating them as standalone projects.

The last phase landed in September. Marous announced a 6,870-square-foot pro shop with custom retail casework, high-density bag storage, restrooms, golf simulators, and cart storage on the lower level. Outside, a patio named Champions Grove joins the clubhouse, the locker room, the course, and the pro shop, giving members an outdoor room where those four parts of the club meet.

On the course, Beechmont worked from design roots that go back to Stanley Thompson in the 1920s. With restoration architect Ian Andrew, the club took on bunkers, drainage, tees, fairway widths, and trees, and the Cleveland Jewish News reported that the work moved hole by hole so members could keep playing. In comments to that paper, Marous Brothers CEO Chip Marous described the firm's role as helping steward the club's next chapter in partnership with the Orange community.

Marous marked completion of the main club in August, and Crain's now describes the campus project as finished. For boards looking at completed whole-house work such as The Winston Golf Club in Calgary, Beechmont adds a Midwestern case in which the course sat inside the same program as the building.

For a club of Beechmont's age, the point is where the money went. Capital went into the rooms that decide how often members use the place: the bar, the kitchen, the lounges, the pro shop, and the terrace that ties them to the course. Beechmont marked its first hundred years in 2023. On Cleveland's east side, the work finished this year is how the club has chosen to begin the next hundred.
