Bonita Bay Club Approves a $110 Million West Clubhouse for Bonita Springs, Southwest Florida
Members of Bonita Bay Club, a member-owned private club with campuses in Naples and Bonita Springs, have approved a $110 million West Clubhouse by AM Design Group on the main campus in Southwest Florida. Groundbreaking is targeted for the end of the 2028 season, and construction has not started.
Bonita Bay Club, whose five championship courses sit on separate campuses in Naples and Bonita Springs, is preparing to rebuild the social center of its main property in Southwest Florida. Members have approved a $110 million clubhouse, to be built in two phases on the club’s roughly 2,400-acre campus in Bonita Springs. AM Design Group is the architect for the new West Clubhouse. For a club that describes itself as the largest member-owned private golf club in Florida, the vote closes a reinvestment stretch that has run for a decade and a half.
The club places the new building at about 80,000 square feet under air. A May announcement cited 140,000 square feet for the planned clubhouse. The gap is the sort that appears when a program also includes a lower-level parking garage, outdoor dining, and a rooftop bar, spaces that usually fall outside conditioned area. The West Clubhouse will anchor the Bonita Springs campus, while the Naples campus continues from the clubhouse AM Design Group finished there in 2024.
Work has not started. Groundbreaking is targeted for the end of the 2028 season, a practical window for a Southwest Florida club whose members are most present in winter and spring. The club has said dining and amenities will stay available through both construction phases, and the architecture is described as Florida coastal.

The rooms follow how members already use the place. The 55th Hole, already a favorite, is set to grow with indoor and outdoor seating and a sushi bar built into the room. A new Sunset Lounge is planned for drinks and lighter fare, and a rooftop bar will look across the courses toward the Gulf. A grand ballroom sized for about 360 guests, with a dance floor and space for a band, will also serve as the daily card room, a plain acknowledgment that in Southwest Florida the bridge table can matter as much as the first tee. Private function rooms and three full-service kitchens complete the published plan.

The part members will rarely see may carry the most weight. Employee space is planned to grow by about 500 percent, answering a member survey that ranked better staff areas, updated kitchens, and more operational capacity among the club’s top priorities. Fred Fung, the club’s CEO and general manager, called the work “far more than a new clubhouse,” treating it as an investment in the people who deliver service as well as in the rooms where members receive it. The commitment follows an employee housing complex that opened in November 2025.
AM Design Group already knows the property. The firm completed the Naples campus clubhouse in 2024, the same year the club added a short-game practice area, a Golf Academy, and a Club Fitting Lab. The same firm is behind the roughly $24 million renovation and expansion at Audubon Country Club in Naples, where work is underway and a new outdoor dining venue and reimagined veranda sit at the center of the plan, a consistent preference for a Gulf Coast house that opens outward. The West Clubhouse applies that preference at a much larger scale.
The project is the last large piece of a long effort. Since members bought the club from its original developer in 2010, they have put roughly $250 million in capital into the property and upgraded every major amenity along the way. The club has also been recognized repeatedly as a Platinum Club of America and a Distinguished Club, as noted in the May membership announcement and the club’s June account of the vote.
Other Florida private clubs are answering the same question on a smaller field. Where Mizner Country Club in Delray Beach and Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota have been renovating houses already standing, Bonita Bay has chosen to build new, and to build at this scale. A member-owned club in Southwest Florida voting to spend $110 million on one building, and placing staff space at the center of the brief, is arguing that competitive club life depends on better rooms for members and on a working plant that lets the people who run the club do the job.
