Desert Highlands Invests $3.5M in a Men's Locker Room and Nicklaus Room in Scottsdale
Desert Highlands is putting $3.5 million into its men's locker room in Scottsdale, Arizona, including a new Nicklaus Room fireside lounge. PHX Architecture and Hatch Design Group are leading the work toward an end-of-2026 finish.
Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona, is investing $3.5 million in its men's locker room, a renovation that includes the men's grill and lounge and a new Nicklaus Room and is scheduled to finish by the end of 2026.
Desert Highlands, the private club and residential community in North Scottsdale, is putting $3.5 million into that lower-clubhouse work, Joan Sykora, Chief Brand and Experience Officer, told Club + Resort Business on September 2. The program covers the men's grill and lounge and a new fireside Nicklaus Room, with an end-of-2026 finish. The club reports 563 memberships, all tied to homeownership.

The Golf Wire reported on June 23 that PHX Architecture and Hatch Design Group are leading the design, the same team that completed the women's locker room and golf shop and designed Jack's. The gathering space is being opened with new windows and accordion doors to an outdoor patio. Darker wood and wainscoting are set against modern fixtures. Wet areas are being modernized with leathered granite counters and a mix of antique or champagne brass and matte-black fixtures. The Nicklaus Room is planned as a fireside lounge with oversized leather chairs and a bookshelf, an homage to Desert Highlands as the world's first Jack Nicklaus Signature course.
"We wanted to create something that brought light in, while also acting as a great gathering space," Sykora told Club + Resort Business. "So we're opening up walls. We're adding windows. We're doing accordion doors that open up to an outdoor patio." She described the aim as a more open space that is more inclusive and welcoming.
Desi Speh, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, told The Golf Wire that updating the men's locker room "will make it more functional and inviting, and aligns with the Desert Highlands brand and quality expected at the club today and into the future."
Sykora frames the men's renovation as phase two of the lower clubhouse, after phase one work on the golf shop and ladies locker room. A $2.5 million golf shop and women's locker room project is already complete, and a $9.8 million Nicklaus Design course restoration finished the prior November.
The job sits in the same Arizona clubhouses file as FireRock Country Club's renovated house in Fountain Hills, with Hatch Design Group interiors continuity also on view at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe after that club's $14 million reopen, and in the wider Clubhouses coverage.
