Independence joins Heritage's Virginia group that already includes The Dominion Club about 20 minutes away in Richmond, 1757 Golf Club in Dulles, and Spring Creek Golf Club in Charlottesville. The property plays 27 holes on a Tom Fazio championship eighteen plus The Bear, a par-3 nine. The Championship Course has been listed by Golf Digest among Virginia's top public layouts and currently ranks No. 18 in the state, with five tee sets from about 5,000 yards to more than 7,100 yards. The club has hosted the Virginia State Golf Association Men's State Open from 2007 through 2013 and again from 2020 through 2026.

Mark Burnett, CEO of Heritage Golf Group, said the aim was never simply a larger list of clubs, but a company that put people first, invested in its properties, and gave local teams support. Reaching 50 clubs is a milestone, he said, while the impact at each club means more. Jim Oliver, Heritage's COO, said adding Independence strengthens the company's presence in Virginia and called the Richmond property a unique asset with strong local business relationships and an impressive daily-fee golf operation.
No purchase price appears in the Golf Business News report. Heritage frames regional clusters as a way to support reciprocal access through the Heritage Plus Network, a posture consistent with Heritage's Old Natchez acquisition in Franklin, Tennessee, which brought the company to 49 clubs just before this close. The Independence transaction is an ownership story first, not a published clubhouse program, and it sits in the same development lane as operator-led portfolio growth rather than a ground-up resort such as Cabot Wilds.
