Kensington Golf & Country Club, a member-owned club in Naples, Florida, that opened in 1994, has won a 2026 Sand Dollar Award from the Collier Building Industry Association for its $15.8 million clubhouse renovation. Curran Young Construction, the builder, received the Sand Dollar Award for Best Clubhouse, Exterior and Interior, according to a Curran Young release on PRLog dated Oct. 20.

Naples architect David Humphrey of Humphrey Rosal Architects designed the project, and Wegman Design Group handled the interior design. Members and guests marked the opening of the renovated clubhouse at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 5, 2026, according to a ribbon-cutting release from Priority Marketing. The Sand Dollar Awards represent the association's highest honors. Kensington earned recognition in the Builder/Remodeler category for integrating its interior and exterior spaces, for its design and functionality, and for its ability to serve the membership. Independent industry experts from across Florida judged the entries virtually, and the winners received honors at a gala on Sept. 19 at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples.

Curran Young renovated the 38,318-square-foot clubhouse, the 4,356-square-foot pro shop, and the 8,719-square-foot maintenance building, and added a new 3,981-square-foot resort-style pool, bringing the total facilities to 55,374 square feet. Better circulation and stronger connections between indoor and outdoor rooms guided the clubhouse work. An expansive, light-filled lobby provides members with "see-through" views of the golf course upon arrival and links to updated dining venues, a bar, and lounges. Expanded covered dining, an upgraded kitchen, and improved service spaces enable the club to host member functions, weddings, and nonprofit events for up to 330 guests, according to the club's renovation release.

Locker rooms received renovations that added dedicated massage rooms. The golf shop grew larger and now includes a TrackMan lesson and fitting area. The redesigned pool outside features lap lanes, zero-entry access, and cabanas. An expanded court sports complex introduces six new pickleball courts next to the tennis and bocce courts, and many of the courts have lighting for night play.

Careful phasing and coordination by Curran Young allowed Kensington to remain open throughout construction. "Country club projects demand precision, steady coordination and respect for operations," said Bruce Young, president of Curran Young. Members continued to use the club even as the rebuild proceeded around them.

This renovation marks the latest stage of a multiyear master plan. In 2019 the club added the Brighton Pointe outdoor dining area, renovated its fitness center in 2020, and restored the golf course in 2021. Kensington occupies 380 acres in Naples. Its par-71 championship course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., has hosted several U.S. Open and Florida State qualifiers. Clubhouse renovations follow a pattern across Southwest Florida, including at The Club at Olde Cypress, also in Naples, which finished a $16 million renovation and expansion of its existing clubhouse. Elsewhere, renovated clubhouses have also gained recognition: Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield, Ohio placed third in Golf Inc's Clubhouse of the Year for its renovation.
