Coral Mountain Desert Club, a roughly 400-acre Meriwether Companies private club in La Quinta, California, is under construction toward a 2028 first phase with a Hart Howerton clubhouse and a David McLay Kidd desert course. Surf is planned as a Thermal Beach Club annex about ten minutes away.
Coral Mountain Desert Club is under construction in south La Quinta, California, on a roughly 400-acre private tract at the base of Coral Mountain in the Coachella Valley. Meriwether Companies, the Boulder, Colorado, resort developer, announced groundbreaking in April 2026, with the golf course and first amenities aimed at 2028. A September 21, 2026 Forbes feature treated the Greater Palm Springs project as still in construction on that same horizon.
The clubhouse, by the architecture and planning firm Hart Howerton, is described in the April materials as the social center of the property. The published program includes private dining; men's and women's lounges with full-service food and beverage; fitness and recovery rooms with massage treatment rooms, steam, sauna, cold plunges, and hot tubs; hospitality programming; and an outfitters hub. The same firm is on the Golf House scheduled for spring 2027 at Travis Club near Austin, Texas, and on Hart Howerton work in the Cabot Wilds community lane. Neither Meriwether nor Hart Howerton has published clubhouse square footage for Coral Mountain.
Phase one centers on an 18-hole championship course by David McLay Kidd, framed in the April PR Newswire release and in Golf Digest as Kidd's first desert-style links and first Coachella Valley course. The same phase also calls for a driving range and two elevated comfort stations. Meriwether has listed four padel courts, eight pickleball courts, and three tennis courts, plus a recreational lake, resort-style pools, a pump track, family programming, and a trail network connecting the club to more than 20,000 acres of adjacent public land. The developer has called the project the valley's first large-scale private club debut in more than twenty years. A Markets of Tomorrow tracker cites an approved specific plan for up to 750 residences and 60,000 square feet of commercial space; those residence counts are not itemized in the April PR.

Surf is not on the La Quinta parcel. Members are slated to use a 48-chamber pneumatic wave basin at Thermal Beach Club, about a ten-minute drive away and billed by Meriwether as the largest basin of its type in the United States. Markets of Tomorrow notes that La Quinta rejected an on-site basin earlier; completion of the Thermal Beach Club annex is grouped with the golf course and first amenities on the 2028 calendar.

The La Quinta work is a new-build, not a remodel of an existing house. That separates it from La Valle Coastal Club, the former Morgan Run in Rancho Santa Fe, where the same developer has just finished a remake of a standing club and hotel. Coral Mountain sits in Best Clubhouse's development column as a ground-up Coachella Valley club still several seasons from those first buildings. Public materials do not include a construction budget for the clubhouse or the course, and they do not give a finished square footage for the Hart Howerton house.
